No chemical fertilizers or herbicides are used. All the animals are fed on grass and home grown fodders, and are allowed to live in a mixed age herd, that is as close to a natural way of life as possible. Bulls are not shut away in bull pens and calves are not weaned until ten months (unless the mother is ill or weak, but this is rare). The oldest cow we had lived to 15 and died of old age on the farm.Most cows of the old breeds can live to healthy productive old age.
