Magic is the grandson of Cutcombe Millennium our magnificent stock bull He is a quiet, well proportioned young bull that is well handled and halter trained. His dam Ashott Barton Dairymaid 1st is a cow from a very milky line.
Merlin is the son of Cutcombe Millennium, Stock Bull of the year 2006. Millennium is an outstanding bull of tremendous length, depth and size who moves superbly and produces stock which have uniformly excellent growth rates. Millennium has been awarded Stock Bull of the year on two occasions (2004 & 2006). His progeny, Merlin’s siblings, have won praise from herd competition judges who in 2006 inspected 37 herds and placed us third in the medium herd section.
Merlin has his sire’s qualities and his steady laid back temperament. His dam, Champson Tulip the 48th is now 13 years old and is a long, deep cow of rich red colour that still has a well hung udder and produces a plentiful supply of milk. Merlin was weaned at 300 days and he was 400 kg. He was 750 kg on 7th February.
Merlin brings together breed qualities and a genetic inheritance from two well known and exceptional herds.

Rowan was sold to Bernard Stamp, who is a leading judge of Dexter cattle, pass president and current vice president. He regards her as an outstanding example of what a long legged Dexter should be. Weeks after buynig her he took her to Devon county show and she was placed third. Long legged animals have a hard time being recognised in the show ring, therefore this was a very good achievement for a young animal on her first show outing.
Ashott Barton Rowan is a yearling pedigree Dexter long legged heifer. A superb example of a long legged animal, halter trained and nice natured. Sire: Nordons Bonsai, Dam: Ashott Barton Ruby. Rowan is from prize winning parents. Bonsai had a long show career when he was owned by Bernard Stamp. Ruby is home bred and was reserve champion Dexter and reserve champion cow at Devon county show in 2003.
Champson Thorald (M08005) is now for sale. He is a red Devon bull out of Champson Curly 6th by Primore Thorald 1st, born on 22/04/2006. We purchased him on 20/03/2008 at Sedgemoor Auction Centre North Petherton. He has been well handled by us and has a good temperament, very approachable in the field when not at work! In his first year he has sired 15 offspring, 10 male and 5 female.
Magic is no longer for sale
Magic has been our secondary Devon Bull since May 2005 and it has now come to the time where we need to move him on. He has been a great animal to have about, quiet in temperament and is an effective sire. He is an ideal choice for putting to first time heifers as the calves he produces are not too broad in the shoulder.

Gitano has been mentioned in another article on our site
Gitano is the half brother of Ashott Barton Rowena (dam line), Redwing and Minnie Moo (sire line) the heifers presented at the Dexter sale. Like his mother he is a jet black, short legged animal. His sire is a red bull that carries the red gene from his dam and sire lines. Gitano is parent verified
Ruby was a superb short legged cow of endearing character. She was a beefy but high yielding cow with an excellent udder, the hallmark of Knightsway cows She is the daughter of Sollershope Maverick M3355 and Knightsway Rowena F17702.
Ashott Barton is an organic hill farm in the HLS, on Exmoor. Our land is at 1100 to 1300feet. The cattle are reared very extensively, ranging over rolling herb rich pastures. In the winter the Dexters live out with access to an Exmoor Linhey for shelter and hay. Even in February’s 2 foot snows they were out and about.
The breed Champion was Wingstone Millennium- Raj, grandson of our wonderful Cutcombe Millennium and son of Ashott Barton Bobby. It was indeed a wonderful day and our thanks to Mr. Dart. Morgan was bought by Mr. Philip Payne and has gone to Wiltshire. It is great to breed a good bull and sell him well but there is also sadness at letting him go. We live very closely with our animals and training and working with a bull leads to close bonds. There is always concern about how he will be in his new home.
Morgan’s sire Bobby was the first Devon Bull we bred. He is 8 years old and living very happily on Dartmoor. Monty is in Cornwall and Merlin in Devon. Both being much valued by their owners. So we trust Morgan too will prove his worth and help a keen young farmer to continue to improve his herd.
